(I decided to give this it's own blog to keep up with it)Now for something different, a couple of my photographer friends have done this so I decided to jump in and try it too, I'm not quite done with my list yet but when I do I'll update it. Goodbye 2011 & 101 in 1001 . South Central Va lifestyle photographer

This has been a crazy year, so much has happened it's insane! First of all THANK YOU to all my amazing clients, friends, family and fans that have supported me and let me into your lives to capture memories for you! Without you guys I wouldn't be able to do what I love!! I figured I'd post some of my favorite personal photos to help tell what happened this year for us :)
In January Keeley and I traveled to New Bern to photograph our friend Rachael's husband's homecoming, it snowed on the way home which was interesting to drive in :P

Keeley turned two and let us do a quick shoot of her

Katie took our family / maternity photos at Hwy 21 drive in one of our favorite places

Then we went out and did a maternity session on Mothers Day which was a ton of fun!

I loved using the quilt, stuffed animal & pillows I made him and the pedal car I got to do his month and year photos

Katie came with me to my last session before maternity leave

I was so lucky to have Katie photograph Jaxon's birth.His induction was very long but I had the birth I wanted and he was perfect, very much worth the wait :) I was nervous about being a family of 4 (well actually a family of 8 lol) but Keeley has been amazing with him and Jaxon is so laid back and awesome

We had so much fun doing his newborn photos his first two weeks :)

Katie did a quick family session in our house, except Keeley wasn't having it lol

My friend Andie came with us to do this session and snapped the photo of us 4, Keeley loves Andie lol

one of my favorites of the two, Keeley is an awesome big sister she love to play with Jaxon and help take care of him

We spent the fourth of July on base with friends <3

I went to Texas to photograph a wedding and got to hang out with my best friend, it was soo much fun! and awesome because we hadn't seen each other in 2 years!

The dogs are adapting to having two little ones crawling all over them very well.

I got featured on a blog which was fun and prompted the need for new headshots by Katie of course :P

Keeley and Ally became great friends which has been heartbreaking since we've moved, it's hard explaining to a 2.5 year old why we can't go hang out with her friend like normal

more by Katie, I loved Jaxon's room, it was really a labor of love and I was so upset to take it all down when we moved :(

this was while we were packing up her room, she didn't seem to care they were having fun

Drew and I went to the SC state fair for me to photograph a couple, it was fun to have us time doing something fun

Drew and I traveled to Philly to visit some friends from his first 4 years in the USMC it was a lot of fun seeing everyone!

I made two quilts this year and I've started on my third, this one for Drew and I is a lot bigger than the first two I've made. It's also very rare I can do anything to Keeley's hair, I have all these adorable bows and headbands for her but she'll never wear them, so the photo on the right is a rarity and didn't last long

The upside to being home is hanging out with good friends again

our most recent photos, Jax's 7 month photo and Keeley actually smiling at the camera <3 Jaxon is now low crawling everywhere and we think he'll start crawling soon, Keeley has almost mastered potty training completely and is speaking so well these days. I'm so proud of both of them and can't wait to see what the future holds for them.

melts my heart more Drew seems to be enjoying life outside of the Marine Corps with his beard :P He starts school next month and is playing football for the Virginia Storm, I'm so proud of him!

2011 has been an amazing year for us, 2012 will be a lot different than the past 8 years but I'm excited to see what it holds

Now for my Pictures for Paws update! Above is the new logo design for it, it took me forever to get the dogs to stand still long enough for me to get the photo for the silhouette but I'm very happy with it. Since Pictures for Paws started in the summer of 2010 we raised $200 which was awesome! I was able to donate $100 each to Bad Rap and Noah's Arks Rescue, so hopefully that was able to help some animals out. Right now I've decided on one rescue to donate for coming up and I'm looking for another I have some in mind but I'll post when I have made my decision. Thank you to everyone who has brought their pet to their sessions to help with this, it means a lot!

Sadly this year two of the dogs I photographed passed away Hunter and Rocco. I was lucky enough to take Henry's moms maternity and family photos before he was born so when his mom contacted me to photograph his baptism I was really excited to meet him and see how much his brother had grown. This wedding was nothing short of amazing! Ashley is a wedding planner so I expected nothing less from her when it came down her big day. I love the way Ashley and Jeff included the girls in the ceremony, I don't think there was a dry eye amongst the guest. The speeches during dinner were both touching and funny and the reception was gorgeous even though it was a bit chilly. From the hay bail sofa's with the antique side tables and lamps, to all the stringed lights and antique dishes everything was so beautifully put together. I wanted to share their first draft album layout for their blog :)Guys thank you so much again for choosing me to photograph your big day! I had so much fun getting to know your family!

This was the perfect session to be my last one in Beaufort. This family was so adorable and just all around fun to be around! I was excited they included their dog Rocco in the photos as well, he did so well posing for me. This was the first year Buddy the Elf visited our family before Christmas. Keeley seemed to really enjoy finding him each morning which was fun for us too. I think we forgot to hid him one day after I broke my toe (well I think I broke it haha) but other than that one day I think we did pretty good :) I can't wait to bring him out again next year :) He brought Keeley a couple of things during his stay with us including the gingerbread tree and her two new dolls that Santa's Elves (cough cough me) made her before Christmas. My friend Grace referred Kara and Jason to me, she told me I would love them. She was right, not only were they a super sweet and fun couple but they had also adopted Lila and brought her a long for photos. Lila was my last Pictures for Paws pet of the year and she was so photogenic once she warmed up to me. Kara told me about Angels of Assisi where she helps out, they sound like an amazing organization so I've decided they will be one of the organizations Pictures for Paws will be raising money for in the New Year :) Ok I'll be quiet and get to their photos now :)

So on my birthday a photo group I'm a part of did a challenge to get a disposable camera and document the day, I thought it was perfect since it was my birthday. The day started out like any other, Jaxon hanging out in his swing drinking a bottle and Keeley running around after her nanny. I think Jaxon is looking at me like "Man you look old mommy"

So a couple of months ago my friend Emily, who I've known forever and ever, asked me if I wanted to take part in a sort of styled session with a local artist. How could I say no to something like that? The days leading up to the session had been a bit cold but luckily that day warmed up for us. I recently took part in a little project called 10 on the 10th with some other photographers, here is my 10 photos from the 10th (surprisingly I didn't take anything Marine Corps related...hmm)so my day started out normal hanging out with the kiddos, looking at the Christmas toy books, drawing tattoos and trying on new hats you know the normal :P My two year old was less than thrilled about taking photos with me but I got a semi cute one of us together. Jaxon on the other hand loves photos and was a great model of his new hatI was excited to find out one of my photos was featured on Clickin Mom's facebook which was really cool. it had been raining until the afternoon when I left to run some errands, the trees still have some pretty leaves on themI took a trip to Hobby Lobby to get some stuff for my Christmas sessions, seriously hobby lobby is amazing and I always spend too much money in there. the sunset was beautiful! I took like 20 photos of it in between my shopping tripsour small little gretna sign which is blurred from me driving and some yummy new fabric I got because I can never have enough fabric :)all of these were taken with the Hipstamatic app with the Chunky lens and Blanko Noir film :)

I love this family, I was lucky enough to photograph Rachelle and Chris's wedding in Florida so when Rachelle's family was in town and wanted a big family photo I was excited to photograph them. Their family has now grown by one and is about to grow by another, Matt and Heather welcomed their little man into the world a couple of months ago and Rachelle and Chris are expecting a lil girl in a couple of months. I hope I can photograph the youngest members of the family one day :)

When Suzanne told me she wanted to do their session at the fair I was very excited! One I love the fair all the rides and food I mean who doesn't love the fair lol and two I've always wanted to photograph a couple at the fair. My favorite ride at the fair is the swings, at first the only swings we saw were the ones that went way up in the air, my thought was I love the swings this will be no different and it would be so cool to photograph them while we're up in the swings... Let me tell you if my husband wasn't right beside me I don't think I would have let go to the bar to take the shots I got up there haha those were not like the swings I was used to lol but they ended up being some of my favorite shots that I'm super proud of :) So here are my favorites from their session :)

I love this family, Brittany and I met online through a Marine spouse support group, then finally met out in California, I was able to photograph her and Steve in Cali when Keeley and I visited in 2009, then her and Fallyn last year when they were visiting here in Beaufort while Steve was deployed. So it was a lot of fun to photograph them again in North Carolina. I'm hoping they move to Hawaii so I can photograph them there hehe. Here are some of my favorites from their session!

Seriously how cute are these two!?! I've been impatiently waiting to share these for a while and I'm excited to finally show them :) When I told them I wanted to take them to a dark old building and shine my headlights at them for photos they said sure with no hesitation, my kind of people :) Jen is a great friend, she's the type of friend that will drive hours to come to your kids birthday/your babyshower if only for a little bit just because she knows it will make your day :) Ok enough talking and onto the adorableness that is Jen and Chad :)

There is just something about film that I love, I never really thought about it when I was shooting it but after shooting strictly digital for so long I'm inching back to film. I've started to add snapshots in my sessions and the other day I shot a roll during Andie and Jarret's session. I double shot most of the set ups digital to because I don't always trust my eyes with my Pentax so I wanted to make sure I for sure got the shot (my Pentax is super old school all manual and nothing else the light meter is probably the most high tech thing on it other than the self timer but I love it). If you didn't already know I started out shooting film so it's nice to get back to my roots :)

I would have posted about it later but with the military we weren't sure exact dates and all so I wanted to know what was going on before letting the world know. So where are we going you might ask? We'll be moving again in a couple of months or so but for a bit we'll be in Gretna so if you are in the area and have ever wanted photos done by me here is your chance to not have to catch me on the odd weekends/weeks I come home for sessions. I have some big changes in the works for next year so be sure to "like" my page on Facebook so you'll know what those changes are and when they go into effect. Right now we will be moving the last weekend in October and then will be taking a trip to Philly to visit friends the first weekend in November so after we get back from all our travels I will start booking sessions in Va. If you are wanting Christmas photos book before December 12th I'll also throw in some custom Christmas cards for those that book a session with me before that date in Va. I'm excited to be moving back and starting my business up where we grew up, it's going to be another fun adventure. Although I am very sad to be leaving Beaufort, I never thought I'd say it but I will miss it here. I've had some amazing clients that have turned into great friends, I've traveled so much while here photographing amazing people, I've really gotten a chance to watch my business grow here and I'm going to miss it.
Ok before I start to cry I'm going to move on haha.
Last month I got the opportunity to travel to Houston Tx for Ali and Patrick's wedding which was a blast, my best friend Brandee came down from Dallas to stay with me which was awesome since we hadn't seen each other in 2 years!! I also got to see Ashley and Gunnar again (it's been 2 years since seeing them) and I got to meet Cassie and her two handsome lil boys. I was introduced to the ginormous galleria in Houston which made me wish I had a ton of spending money. Here are some of my favorites of my personal photos from the trip

My kids are growing way too fast, I know I'm behind in blogging my 52 week photos, I have them I'm just very slow at blogging them. My goal is to blog at least twice a week and if I do that I want to upgrade my blog to a nicer one but I need to stay consistent with my blogging before I do that :) I rented the 16-35mm for the Texas trip and got to use it on some shots of the kids too which was fun. I want that lens lol

Jaxon's Room . Personal

It dawned on me today while painting our kitchen chairs with the same paint I used for a table in Jaxon's room that I never blogged his room photos (actually I never finished blogging his belly book photos either but his book should be here tomorrow in print so I'll take photos of the book instead). I took these last month while we were hanging out in his room trying to get him used to his crib for whenever I decide to move him into his room at night.
Here he is just hanging out in his Pittie onesie I made him, the pillows and the blue monster I made for him as well oh and his quilt in the corner :)

I'm a huge DIY junkie, I've always been, when I was younger I wanted a platform bed so I went to lowes and got the materials to make myself one, not a perfect one but one none the least. His name letters I found on etsy and Urban Outfitters, the guitar I made from a tutorial online (I can't seem to find it right now) the chalkboard piggy bank I got the idea from Lil Blue Boo, one of my favorite pieces you can't see very well because it was on but it's this awesome paper t-rex lamp! I love it!

I put some toys in his room for Keeley to play with as well when we're all hanging out. Keeley also did the scribble art piece on the far right for Jaxon. Also I love the You're Getting Sleepy print by sycamore street press. When I did his room I wanted something that could grow with him and little things be changed to fit him as he grew. Notice his monthly photo car and board

His room is also storage for a lot of my photo props, notice the scale on his dresser and the buckets under the table, their full of hats and such. The Darth Vader print is actually scrapbook paper. I have some of our maternity photos by Kathleen Amelia up as well. The white dresser was my granny's it was originally a wood stain but I painted it while. It needs to be redone since I rushed painting it before really reading about the correct way to do it, Liz Marie Blog has a good instructional on it

Hi Jax!

I'm not the biggest fan of the bookcase, it doesn't match but we had it and needed the space but I didn't have time to paint it so here it is. The frame I found at a thrift shop and painted it, strung some wire across it and made it an art/hat/tie hanger

I hate curtains so I made this fabric bunting for him instead. The table I found at a swap meet thing years ago when Drew and I first got married, it was white when I bought it, I painted it black then had the pain in the butt task of stripping it when I was prego this time around to paint it this blue to match the other table in his room. The table has a glass inset so you can place things under that I love, right now it's some scrap material I had laying around. The toy giraffe was another thrift find of mine. The Fisher Price barn hold his baby lotion and power and such :)

And I had to hang some more of my favorite newborn photos of him in his room :) These are 8x10 prints in 11x14 frames

His room is probably one of my favorites in the house. Keeley's room since she's become mobile (and a monkey) isn't as dressed up as it used to be but she's a toddler it doesn't need to be, although I have big dreams for it whenever we move and have our own place :)

I've been wanting to "update" my blog for a long while now but could never do it since I'm horrible at blogging so I'm going to try to start blogging more to prove to myself it would be worth it to take the plunge and get a nice pretty shinny new blog.
Life with two kiddos is a lot of fun, Jaxon is two months old now and got his shots the other day but he was a trooper and did awesome. He also gave the nurses a guilt trip by smiling and talking to them before giving him his shots.

I'm super lucky that he is an awesome sleeper! I only have to get up once a night on average which is super nice.

I love making things, I made Jaxon a mobile with stars and a spaceship. We hung this mobile from the ceiling fan while it was on, and it made the stars spin around and looked really cool... and then tangled all the strings beyond repair :( I'm bummed but Jax still seems to like it so that's good

Yesterday Katie, the kids and I went to Charleston to get some cupcakes from Cupcake downtown, eat at BWW (I love BWW so much and we don't have one in town so when I go places that have one I have to eat there) and meet up with Jen so I could give her her cd from their family session and the gorgeous 16x20 she had ordered.

I love taking photos in urban areas it makes me happy, and I can't wait to be able to take a day to do just that with my film cameras

I've known Kellie for a very very very long time :) Her brothers and I were in the same grade in school and went to school together from Kindergarten till 8th grade when I transferred. Kellie has since then grown up and moved around the U.S. modeling, I was very jealous when she was living in L.A. :P Her mom and I have been talking about me being able to photograph her and her boyfriend John for a while and luckily it worked out for them to come down for a session and a quick get away for them :) Here are my favorites from the session. My friend Rachael from Rach Lea Photography is pregnant and when she came to me with her idea for announcing the gender I was so excited, I love photos like these and have been itching to do some more so what better way to do them than this :) Rachael & Troy I'm soooo excited for ya'll to have a little mini Rach running around :) I can't wait to meet her!!!

I finally had a minute to set down and go through the thousands of photos of Jaxon's first two weeks to post. There is a lot of I am blogging them a bit different than I normally blog photos and I kinda like it so I might continue to do this from now on.
Now onto Jaxon's story :) If you're a guy you might want to skip the story and head to the photos :P

Jaxon was measuring big since my 20 week ultrasound so when it got closer to my due date my doctors (and I) got kind of concerned about his size verses my size and I wanted to avoid a c-section at all costs so we made the decision to do an induction at 39weeks. I really thought he might come before my induction date of the 24th but alas he was pretty comfy and didn't want to come out, so early Tuesday morning Drew and I headed to the hospital to start the induction process, I hasn't made any progress since my last apt (I was 2cm) so they started me on the cervix medicine, I got it every 4 hours until I progressed enough to start pitocin, thankfully I could get up and down as I pleased because I had 3 rounds (12 hours) of the medicine before I could start the pitocin. My friend Katie was amazing and came to the hospital around 6 to hang out and photograph the birth process, sadly around 1 a.m. they had started the pitocin and nothing was really going on so Katie went home to get some sleep in her comfy bed. Drew had been sharing a bed with me but the nurse told him it might not be a good idea for the reason that happened next. Katie had been gone for about an hour, the nurse had come in and asked me if I wanted my epidural because the guy was next door, I told her no and I'd let her know because I could breath through the contractions and still wanted to be able to get out of bed. 10 minutes later my water breaks, and if you had seen belly photos of me before he was born I'm pretty sure that was why I was so big. I called the nurses station and all of them started cheering (I had been there almost 24 hours at this point) Just like with my daughter after my water broke my contractions became back to back with no downtime so I went ahead and got my epidural which was nice. My doctor gave me a deadline of 7 because he had to go into the clinic then, Katie came back around 6ish and by that time I was almost fully dilated but still had some cervix on my right side, unfortunately 7 came and it was the same way so I went through to my 9th nurse and my second doctor who was the doctor that delivered Keeley. Around 7:30 everything was good to go but the nurse said it was good to wait a bit for him to come down a little more so I wouldn't have to push as much and she was right when she came in to check me again he was on his way out so a couple of pushes later and he was here. He was 8lbs 7oz, 21inches long and perfect :) If you have the chance to have your birth photographed DO IT I cannot thank Katie enough for being there for us, those images make me want to cry every time I look at them! We had some of Keeley but not like these with Jaxon. Keeley didn't get to meet him until the next day because she wasn't feeling good the day he was born but she was so happy to meet him and wanted to hold him immediately. She's a great big sister. Every time I see Drew with him I melt a little he's so proud of both his kiddos :) I am truly blessed.

The Todd's . Hilton Head Couples photography

Desirae is a photographer in Tennessee who just so happened to be on her belated honeymoon in Hilton Head with her hubby this week. She had asked a while back about photographers in the area and I replied not thinking she would pick me to photograph them while they were there but much to my happiness she did :) As the date got closer I kept getting more nervous about going into labor before or during their session but thankfully that didn't happen and we had a great time hanging out on the beach. Katie came along with me and grabbed some amazing shots of them as well as some of us in action :) (which I stole from her facebook to share at the end of this post :) )

Fabric Bracelets . Tutorial

Yesterday for Mothers Day my friend Katie and I went out on a photo adventure where I got to get in front of her very talented lens once again for some maternity photos before Jaxon make his appearance (hopefully sooner than later because the are you carrying twins thing is getting old, no I'm not carrying twins just one big boy that's going to be a football player like his dad lol). The night before when I was getting things together for the shoot I knew I wanted to make something fun, I was going to do a headband but decided to put one of the ones I had made my daughter to good use since she's not a fan lol. I was looking in my fabric bin and came across all the scraps that I had left from Jaxon's quilt and it made me think about a blog Ashley from Under the Sycamore had posted while her daughter was in the hospital and I knew what I wanted to do.

I wanted to make these bracelets which turned out to get a lot of questions on facebook about where I got them so I wanted to share how I made them in case anyone wanted to make some of their own :) I know there are probably a ton of tutorials out there on how to make them but here is mine :)

skinny bracelet
start out with a wide piece of fabric that is longer than the circumference of your wrist

I'm a huge fan of ripping fabric so I cut the two slits in the fabric to start

then rip till you get about an inch or a 1/2 an inch from the edge

then cut a slit in that area, not too wide though

braid the fabric and then knot it off at the end, make sure it will fit around your wrist before knotting it off

take the knot and pull it through the slit at the top and there you go

if it's longer than needed once you get it on wrap the extra around the bracelet and you can tuck the extra around the slit in if you'd like it's totally up to you

The Chunky Bracelet
Start with lots of random strips of scraps, once again longer than the circumference of your wrist, I like to do at least 9 strips

Tie a knot at the top to gather it all together and start braiding

once you get to where it is at a length where it will fit around your wrist (and go over your hand to get it on) take the top knot and insert it into your braiding area and braid a little bit

then take your braiding ends and tie them together so you're securing the braid which will make your finished product look like side by side knots

There is really no right or wrong way to do this, it's just the way I like to do it and it's so easy and fun you can make a ton! I've also done necklaces like this for my daughter to play with which is a lot of fun and a great way to use all my scraps.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and ignore my not so awesome photos, I cannot hand hold 1/15th of a second with one hand very well lol

Jaxon's Belly Book weeks 32-36 . personal

I'm trying to stay on top of these as much as I can here on the blog so with all the craziness that is going on this month I wanted to go ahead and post what I have now in case I don't get to blog the rest of my pregnancy until after he's here and things are settled down. I can't believe Jaxon will be here this month and could actually come any day now! Hopefully he waits until after my last session next week though but anytime after that sounds great. He's measuring 10 days early and is already weighing about the same as Keeley's birth weight so hopefully he'll come sooner than later. Anyways here are my photos from the past couple of weeks

wk32. I had the wedding in Georgia which was a lot of fun! It was interesting being so big and photographing a wedding but everyone was so sweet and the wedding was amazing so I would do it again in a heartbeat :)

wk33. I photographed a baptism the day this photo was taken and realized I hadn't gotten an overhead shot in a while, plus I wanted to show off my Kelly Moore bag :P

wk34. this is a 2 photo week, we took Keeley to the aquarium in Charleston for Easter which was a lot of fun. I haven't taken any photos like this of Drew and I for a while (which is crazy because it used to be an every day thing) and then I loved this photo of Keeley giving brother a hug

I was excited when Dana told me about her idea to incorporate how her and Matt met in band into their engagement photos. I love when people incorporate special things like this into their photos, it helps tell a story. For these two they met Dana's first day in band and Matt was one of her first friends she met in band. A couple of years later they started dating and the rest is history. Get ready for an overload of photos. I cannot believe my daughter will be 2 in a couple of weeks! It's flying by way too fast! My husband and I set up her birthday photos last weekend so we could get her invitations made and sent out in due time. Although it was windy and prevented us from setting up a couple of the props we had we were still able to do a majority of the things I had dreamed up which made me happy and luckily Keeley happy too. If you're a photographer this is probably nothing new for you, you've probably hear of the amazingness that is Kelly Moore Bags. I've been drooling over one for a while now because while I love my shootsac I really need something that can carry my camera bodies as well, and with the upcoming upgrade to the Mark II I'm going to need something to carry both the classic and Mark II in for shoots. Last fall my friend Rachael helped me shoot a wedding back home, lucky for me Rachael is a Kelly Moore bagahollic and has two already, so I got to try out her B Hobo bag and fell in LOVE! It was roomy enough to hold my 60mm, 24-70mm my rebel with it's battery grip and some extras I had to carry around without fear something was going to fall out which was awesome! Since then it's been a constant struggle in my head whether to wait and get it or just get it, get it over with and be happy lol So I've decided to take the plunge and get one :) If you haven't checked out the bags yet you should, they are all super cute and there is even one for the boys which I really like and thought about getting except I love the B Hobo so much :P

I first met Jenny and Crenly at the 3D ultrasound place in town. My husband had on his Jets jersey and Jenny and I were talking about how her husband is a Miami fan and how the seasons were going. Little did I know 2 months later I would be doing their maternity photos. It's fun hanging out with another pregnant lady we have lots to talk about :) Luckily for us their naming their son Jason and we're naming our son Jaxon so I had the letters for some of these photos since our last name is Smith and I had an S laying around.
